No Words…..

Standard

So I have been kind of avoiding posting anything about the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting for several reasons. I just don’t have words sufficient enough to even begin to chip away at the very tip of the iceberg of emotions running through me (and I’m sure everyone else as well). I’m still trying to process exactly what I am feeling and haven’t made it to a point of being able to adequately express myself or my grief.

I do know that the blow from this has reached far and wide and is impacting so many people from so many different perspectives. As I try to think through them all, my heart is simply broken. I continue to pray for each of those that have been affected by this terrible tragedy. The families that lost a loved one. The teachers and students in schools that have to contemplate this tragedy and worry about how it might affect them. Those that exist in that community and those that must go back to Sandy Hook Elementary at some point in the future. Those in our society in which a tragedy like this raises questions of God and His goodness.

Two specific thoughts come to mind:
1. As the decisions have been made to remove the Ten Commandments from our public schools, it leaves the “teaching” of them to the churches or in homes. It seems to me that less of this type of teaching and learning is occurring within our society. We (as a nation) gave up our right to ask where God was during this time when we (as a nation) are the ones that pushed Him out and then have determined to depend upon ourselves for all things.

Jeremiah 2:13, “My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.”

2. Those children were innocent and are now in the arms of Jesus and they will never have to hurt again.
Isaiah 57:1, “The righteous perish, and no one ponders it in his heart; devout men are taken away, and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil. Those who walk uprightly enter into peace; they find rest as they lie in death.”
